Sunday afternoon. Monday morning coffee. I still think Julian Schnabel used painter techniques to make
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly such a beautiful film. Schnabel with captivity again. Former Elle magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby got "locked in" his body after suffering a rare stroke when he was just 43 years old. Left eye and brain are safe. Then he wrote an imaginative book by just blinking his left eye.
A lot of imagination and Schnabel got it. The screenplay juts out Bauby's sense of humor in every line. Bunch of layers. Colors, lights and angles. Bauby hides deprivation somehow. Imagination for the misfortune. There was more than his left eye and his brain. Memories and will. His people were there. The loving man until death.
